Photos of LIPA Tree Butchery, 2012 Contact your Representatives: Topping trees is sharply disapproved by New York State's own Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Here as well as by professional arborist organizations Here. But LIPA and its contract tree companies are on a rampage through Long Island, destroying healthy trees by gutting their branch systems in the dubious effort to prevent power failures. (In fact they are guaranteeing that the trees they vandalize become unhealthy and will eventually fail, as many of the photos here illustrate.) Municipalities like East Hills, where many of these photos were taken, have shamelessly given the tree cutters carte blanche, and have helped them bully residents into also permitting cutting on private property. This letter was submitted to the East Hills Architectural Review Board (ARB) to implore them to find a better system. |
